A fire destroyed a hog confinement building about eight miles north of Winfield Thursday, but no animals were harmed in the incident.

Winfield Fire and Rescue Chief Josh Sparrow says they were called to a farm near the intersection of County Road G62 and V Avenue at about 2:30 p.m. to discover smoke billowing out of the structure. He says the building is a total loss, but as many as 3600 hogs were evacuated safely.

Sparrow says the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, but appears to be electrical in nature. He says there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians and no damage estimate is available at this time. He says an adjacent hog building was not damaged in the blaze.

The Morning Sun, Olds, Crawfordsville and Ainsworth fire departments also responded to the scene.
