The Washington High School concert band is holding their annual Holiday Concert for Children via livestream tonight.
Band Director Don Hughes says he has long been planning to hold this online event, and he enlisted the help of Michael Roder’s video production class to film the band’s performances in the auditorium, “So what we’ve had to do is we’ve been recording one tune every day for the last 10 days. So we’re going to put it all together and release it as a livestream. For copyright reasons we can’t archive it, it just has to go out once and that’s it. So it has been an interesting experience.”
While they’ve had to cut some of the show’s traditional skit performances and exclude Stewart Elementary’s second grade singers from performing, Hughes says they’ve tried to keep the fun alive with students wearing ugly Christmas sweaters. He says the band’s lineup will also vary from song to song as some students were absent during each of the recordings. Hughes confirms that each of the students perform in at least one song, and the concert will be streaming at 7 p.m. tonight from the Washington Athletics YouTube channel, which you can find here.
