Monday, November 16th is the first official day of wrestling practice allowed by the Iowa High School Athletic Association as area athletes get ready for the upcoming season. Along with the normal rigors of preparing for a new year, local teams will also be dealing with new guidelines related to COVID-19. Some of these include, but are not limited to, small workout group assignments in practice, breaks in workouts to sanitize mats and hand wash, and no shared equipment. The state is also asking teams to look at their competition schedules and procedures including getting rid of quadrangular meets, conducting weigh-ins by team or using multiple scales in a gym or larger area and reducing the number of teams and restricting out of state teams from tournaments. A full list of wrestling specific stipulations can be found on the IAHSAA website. The first available date for competition this season is November 30th.
