The Columbus Wildcats saw their 2020 football season come to an end in Friday’s opening round of the class A playoffs, falling to the Wapello Indians on the road, 56-6. The Indians were hot out of the gate, scoring three times in the first quarter to take a 21-0 lead and enacting the continuous clock in the second frame with two more touchdowns, holding a 35-0 lead at the break. In the second half, Wapello found the end zone again in the third quarter, while Columbus broke through with a touchdown in the third when Andrew Gonzalez reached paydirt. The Indians would score twice more in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Wapello outgained the Wildcats 466-257 on the night including 308-24 through the air. Kaden Amigon led the Wildcats with 90 yards on 10 carries. Gonzalez finished with 75 yards on the ground on 21 carries to go along with his touchdown. With the loss, the Wildcats end their season at 2-6.
