Three buildings that were part of the Shiloh property were brought down via a controlled burn over the weekend to make way for the new Southtown Subdivision. Southtown Developers CJ Moyna and Sons applied for a Department of Natural Resources permit to bring down the amphitheater, a maintenance building, and the church building in order to continue with the development of the new subdivision. They worked alongside the Kalona Volunteer Fire Department on the controlled burn and watched for any rekindling of the fire. It took approximately four hours for all three structures to be demolished.
The new Southtown subdivision is being built east of Kalona on the former Shiloh property. CJ Moyna and Sons and Washington County Conservation will work to convert 103 acres of the property into recreational areas such as a dog park, naturescape areas, a nine-hole disc golf course, and walking and biking trails. CJ Moyna and Sons is also converting 56 acres of the property into 64 residential lots. The recreational areas are set to open up for public use by the spring and the residential lots will go up for sale in early 2021.
