In a battle of two teams seeking their first win it was the Wapello football team that emerged over Highland on Friday night in a 42-13 affair.

The Huskies were right in it for a while with the score tied at 7-7 after one, but the Indians broke out for three touchdowns in the second quarter and two more in the third to open up a 42-7 lead and never look back. Wapello ran for 265 yards on the ground with Jake Gustison reaching pay dirt three times. Highland’s Owen Donovan carried the rock 20 times for 105 yards and Connor Grinstead completed six passes out of 17 for 50 yards and two scores. The junior’s touchdown passes of 13 and 10 yards were completed to Carson Netser and Brenton Bonebrake. Isaac Black led the defense with seven tackles and Donovan recorded an interception.

The Huskies drop to 0-2 and return home to Riverside Friday when they clash with Columbus (1-2).
