Most teams that have less than 48 hours to prepare for their opponent might struggle with knowing how to attack said opponent. Sigourney-Keota is not most teams. The Cobras made it look easy on the gridiron Friday night at home in a 48-14 win over class 2A Union Laporte City.

In the early part of the week, the Cobras were preparing to face Eddyville-Blakesburg for senior night, but on Wednesday the Rockets had to cancel and the Knights filled the spot. Whatever team was going against Sigourney-Keota on Friday was probably in for a rude awakening anyways, as the Cobras jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the first, 35-0 lead at half, and continued to pile on in the final two quarters. The rushing attack that has been a staple to the Cobras’ single wing offense for years was on display in this one, as they tallied 385 yards on the ground from 10 different players led by spinback Cade Molyneux with 124 yards and a touchdown.  The junior was also three of five through the air for 82 yards and a score. Levi Crawford and Sam Sieren each reached pay dirt twice to put the finishing touches on a productive night. The defense held the Knights to just 172 total yards with Jack Clarahan tallying 10 tackles and Brady Duwa hauling in two interceptions.

Head Coach Jared Jensen tells KCII Sports the team was laser focused with not much time to prepare. “Our game plan was needing to rely on the basics on both sides of the ball and we executed just that. Right out of the gates our defense played phenomenal, our offense was rolling, and our special teams was clicking. It all seemed to come together. It was senior night so the emotions were there and I was just happy with how our team played despite the adversity thrown at them in the middle of the week.”

The Cobras move to 2-0 and travel to play Louisa-Muscatine on Friday.
