Fresh off of their first playoff win under second year head coach Mallory McArtor, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team takes on a tall task Friday, a road trip to the Quad Cities to meet No. 1 ranked Davenport Assumption in the regional semifinal round of the class 3A playoffs. The Hawks were a wire-to-wire winner Wednesday in the opening round of the playoffs at Tipton by a 9-4 score. On the year, Mid-Prairie has a 2-11 record. The Hawks are hitting .196, led by Rylee Vercande and her .378 average. Jaselyn Robertson has a team best eight RBI, after driving in four in the Golden Hawks first round win Wednesday. In the circle, Mid-Prairie has a team ERA of 4.98, led by Myah Lugar at 4.25. Abbi Patterson has recorded both Golden Hawk wins this year with a 2-6 mark and 5.51 ERA.

Davenport Assumption comes into the game with an overall mark of 17-5 after a 12-0 win over area school Columbus to open the tournament. For the season, the Knights are hitting .367 as a team, fifth best in class 3A. The top five hitters in the Assumption order have an average over .400, led by Lauren Loken at .433 with 26 hits. Anna Wohlers has driven in a team best 27. In the circle, the Knights have a team ERA of 3.50 led by Leah Maro with 5-1 record and 2.43 mark. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Mallory McArtor talked about the keys to the game for the Hawks. “We just need to hit like we have been. It’s hard to compete and win if we can’t score runs. We need to tighten up the defense a bit more and I’ll think we’ll be set.”

Assumption has won the last two meetings between these schools with the Golden Hawks taking the last playoff matchup between the two programs, a 9-0 win in 2012 to advance to the state tournament.
