A semi-truck carrying pigs crashed into the back of a tractor, spilling out the deceased pigs along Highway 22 west of Kalona. On Monday at 3:49 p.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the wreck and dead pigs along the highway near Kiwi Avenue. The rendering truck hit the tractor. The two drivers involved were Terry Deon Erb of Wellman and David Shady of Maquoketa. Shady was cited for unsecured load and passing too close to an intersection. No people were injured in the wreck.

The crash was cleaned up in less than two hours. Washington County Sheriff’s personnel, the Kalona Fire Department, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources assisted at the scene.
