The Iowa legislative session is set to start back up on June 3 after stopping in mid-March due to the COVID-19 outbreak. While many policies and bills will be put aside for another year Representative Joe Mitchell is excited to get back to Des Moines. Mitchell says social distancing guidelines set forth by Governor Kim Reynolds will be enforced and followed at the state capitol when session resumes. Mitchell tells KCII News about an item legislators will focus on when they return to Des Moines, “We will be focusing a lot more on budgets, first policy. Going back into session, we are probably going to be there for two weeks. We still need to see the revenue estimating committee’s numbers and projection to be able to make a conscious decision on what we are going to do with the budget. See who’s going to have to take a decrease and what’s going to be distributed out to people and allocated to folks. It’s going to be a different time than when we left in mid-March, but you got to do what you got to do, and a tough decision is going to be made.”  Mitchell urges Iowans to keep reaching out for ways legislators can help Iowans during these times.
