The sixth best sports story in our top 10 countdown for area schools from the 2019-2020 academic year takes us to a career night for a Keota boys basketball player.

On February 25th the Eagles faced off with BGM in a district semifinal and had a normal day at the office for the dynamic offense in an 85-66 rout. What wasn’t normal though, was the numbers that senior star JD Stout put up. The four-year starter set a new single game record at Keota with 45 points to break Bill Kindred’s previous mark of 42 back in 1991. Stout was a remarkable 17 of 23 from the floor including six of 11 from deep and added four steals defensively.

Head Coach Dan Stout broke down the night for JD and his teammates. “From the opening tip he was determined to get to the hole. We won the opening tip, he got an easy basket. A couple of early steals led to more quick baskets. That opened up things for him and his teammates to shoot from the outside.”

Stout led the Eagles to a 20-4 season and his 29.1 points a night ranked second in all classes. The senior will take his talents to Oskaloosa this winter, as he recently committed to play basketball at William Penn University.

Check back in Monday for number five on our countdown when we take a look at a 20-win Highland season.
