The unicorn constellation, Monoceros, will be near the source of a meteor shower tonight. According to Sky and Telescope, a meteor shower is expected November 21st into the early hours of the 22nd. The shower from the Alpha Monocerotid shower could have as many as 400 meteors per hour. Although, the outburst is only expected to last a half-hour. The source is unknown, but is believed, based on characteristics, that it is from a comet with a period of about 500 years. The Midwest is in a “good” viewing area, while the zenith and excellent zone includes Brazil and the horn of Africa. The shower was last monitored in 1995.
