The City of Kalona is allowing open burning during designated times through the end of November. Residents can burn landscape waste, excluding lawn clippings and wet leaves, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Other restrictions include no use of burn barrels, burn rings larger than 24″, disaster rubbish, fires must be 50 feet from any structure or building, adult supervision on hand, a working garden hose available, or inclimate weather. If the fire draws complaints from other citizens the fire must be extinguished. The full ordinance is available on the city of Kalona’s website.
