Real estate taxes and mobile home taxes are due this month to avoid a late fee. Washington County Treasurer Jeff Garrett is reminding residents that the first half of real estate taxes were due September 1st and must be paid by September 30th to avoid a penalty. The penalty is 1.5% rounded to the nearest whole dollar with a $1 minimum per parcel starting October 1st. Statement coupons need to be placed with the payments. You can pay in person at the Washington County Courthouse in the treasurer’s office, payments can be placed in the drop box by the west door of the courthouse, or they can be mailed to PO Box 889, Washington, Iowa. The fourth option is to pay online at iowatreasurers.org.
