ims-4

Another year, another big season for the Iowa Mennonite School baseball program. Our number six sports story from the most recent school year for IMS highlights the work that was done on the baseball diamond. IMS finished with a 13-8 overall record. It was their third straight season with double digit wins and marks their third straight appearance in a district championship game. IMS finished with an 11-3 conference record, one game shy of a division championship. They were led on the season by Blake Bontrager and his .415 average, sixth highest in the Southeast Iowa Superconference.  The IMS pitching staff had a tremendous year as a group, posting a combined 3.76 ERA. Trevor Leyden led the state with a 0.33 ERA in 21 innings and a 3-0 overall record. That ERA is a new school record. He is joined by Eli Ours who was second in the Superconference with a 1.82 ERA and a perfect 5-0 record. Blake Bontrager was a workhorse again for IMS going 35 innings on the year with a 3-3 record and 4.80 ERA. Bontrager finished his career with 135 strikeouts, sixth most in the program. His 13 wins are sixth most and his 164 innings thrown in his career are fourth most. IMS was awarded with seven all-conference selections including Leyden, Bontrager, Ours, Noah Miller, London Schrock, Jacob Boller and Kobe Borntrager. IMS head coach Danny Hershberger was named Superconference North Division coach of the year. Our IMS countdown of top sports stories picks up again on Monday when we move to the golf course.
