sigourney-3

The eighth best sports story in our top 10 countdown for KCII area schools from the 2018-2019 school year takes us to the basketball court in Sigourney.

The Savage girls continued their tradition of excellence this past winter with a 19-4 season and a trip to the regional final. Sigourney beat Winfield-Mt. Union 41-17 and Holy Trinity 36-25 in the playoffs before falling to Montezuma 45-26 in the game before state. Defense was the name of the game, as the Savages led the South Iowa Cedar League in allowing just 31.2 points a night and compiled 324 steals. They also took care of the rock with a league low 10.3 turnovers a game. Megan Stuhr led the team with 13.8 points a contest and Kaylee Weber wasn’t far behind with 11.4.  The program has been dominant throughout the years compiling 57 wins in the past three seasons.

Check back in tomorrow for number seven on our countdown when we head to the softball diamond.
