One of the busiest quarters on record just ended for the Washington County Recorder’s Office. At Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting, Recorder Jo Greiner provided her quarterly report. She said the spring-time quarter usually has a seasonal increase in activity. This year she said, following the extremely cold winter, has been exceptionally busy with properties moving, boat renewals, and people getting documents for REAL identification cards, “Those three things made our total of just over $142,000 one of the highest we’ve ever had. There’s a couple others that were just a few dollars more.”
REAL IDs have minimum security standards for driver’s licenses and identification cards. The REAL ID Act was enacted by Congress in 2005 and increases the security standards. Some of the documents used to get those cards include certified birth certificates and marriage licenses from the recorder’s office.
