summer-lunches-2019

Summer has commenced for Washington Community School District students. Friday was the final day of classes for the 2018-2019 school year. Students will be able to enjoy a break from classes until Friday, August 23rd. The Demons will have a total of 76 days of summer vacation. Monday marks the start of the free and reduced summer lunch program. Superintendent Willie Stone invites the community to get a free lunch, “This is for any student. All children are welcome 18-years of age or younger. And no enrollment, no cost. It’s for any kid that’s in our district if we have, or in the community, if we have kids coming to the swimming pool and their hungry, catch a ride to the school and you can get a free meal. It’s a great program. It’s a program that the last district I was at had, and it really does a lot for our kids. It really gives all of our kids an opportunity to have that good warm meal every day, and that’s the thing we’re most excited about.”

Any child is welcome, not only Washington students. Adults are welcome too for a small fee. It will be at Lincoln Elementary June 10th through July 12th, and then it will shift to Stewart Elementary from July 15th to August 9th. There will also be free food pantry items available. Summer lunches are offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Transportation is provided, see a schedule of the buses with this story at KCIIRadio.com.
