After bids $140,000 over the estimate, the Washington County Board of Supervisors is changing the bid packages for a video surveillance system. The board approved changing the bids to have a base package with top priority locations, and then alternative options for additional county buildings. Supervisor Jack Seward said the change should benefit the county, “Well, the last time the bids came in it was way over what we could spend and what we thought it was going to be. So now we have the ability to pick and choose the ones we can afford based on priority. And I think it’s a better choice for us.” In May the lowest bid received was $693,000 and the county had budgeted $550,000 for the video surveillance equipment. The bid letting date for the new specifications is June 13th and the public hearing will be June 18th.
