It didn’t’ take the Washington girls soccer team long to get on a roll Thursday night and they never looked back en route to an 8-2 Southeast Conference victory over Keokuk.
There was no stopping Trina Griffin and Greta Rothe on this day, as the sophomore Griffin notched a career-high five goals and the freshman Rothe managed the hat trick. Rothe wasted no time early scoring the game’s first two goals and Griffin got in on the party to take a 3-0 lead. That score held serve until eight minutes left to go in the half when the Demons quickly scored three more times to take a 6-1 lead at the break. The Chiefs tried to make a game of it with a goal in the final 40 minutes but the damage was already done and the Demons cruised to the season sweep of Keokuk.
The win snaps a four-game losing skid for Washington and they improve to 6-5 on the year. The Demons are next on the pitch Monday at Fort Madison.
