Art Domestique hosted a Democrat seeking the nomination for president this cycle with former Texas State Congressman Beto O’Rourke. The Texan spoke to a standing-room-only crowd Friday afternoon. He said that the only way to improve is for everyone to work together, “We are not the place that when people are at their most desperate and vulnerable, having traveled 2,000 miles from some of the deadliest countries anywhere in the world, doing for their kids exactly what you would do for yours, we don’t take their kids from them, we don’t put them in a cage, we don’t deport that parent back from the very country from which she fled in the first place. We remember our heritage, who we are at our best, and the very foundation of our success, our strength, and yes, our security and our safety. It is the fact that people are called to this country, not only to find a better life for themselves and for their kids, but to contribute to a better life for this country and a future of America.”

He also addressed climate change, saying now is the time to address the issue to make the country sustainable for our children. He said that his experience on the Texas-Mexico border has shown that working together regardless of race, language, and background has been beneficial. In regards to immigration, he supports DACA and Dreamers becoming citizens. Healthcare was also discussed, and he would like to work across the aisle for legislation to support affordable healthcare options for all Americans. His visit to Washington was his second day on the campaign trail.
