A $4.7-million bond issue for the Winfield-Mount Union School District will be the subject of a special election. The WMU School Board approved a request by the district’s facility committee for a special election to fund facility improvements. Superintendent Jeff Meader says the money would go towards improvements to the preschool and kindergarten wing, replace the heating and ventilation system, to help purchase and renovate a new building for the district’s industrial technology program, and expand their secondary gym to be able to host ball games.

Meader believes these improvements are necessary to maintain the district’s longevity, “We really tried to narrow and focus in on what’s really going to help sustain this district. We believe this plan will do that. I know that it’s a big commitment for people to make, but it is a really worthwhile investment. And I think our students deserve the best facilities to be educated in.” Meader says the plan includes using sales tax revenue, funds from the state’s SAVE program, and property tax revenue. The special election will be April 3rd.
