The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union wrestling team competed in a triangular against Wapello and Mediapolis Thursday night, taking the win in both duels.
Forfeits from both Mepo and Wapello helped the team scores along a bit, but the guys that did wrestle gave some solid performances. The Wapello duel started out their night with a 45-27 team win. Robert Loveless and Chance Colby each won their head to head matches at 182 and 195, respectively.
The Mepo duel was next, with the Wildcats taking a tight team victory 32-30. They were down 30-24 going into the 220 weight class, where Chance Malone came up big with a 1-0 decision over Mepo’s Keegan Akers to send it to a three-point deficit. The 285 saw a double-forfeit, so it was up to Lane Scorpil at 106 to get the job done. He had to get at least a major decision in order to take the victory. He came out firing on all cylinders, getting the tech fall in 4:17 to secure the individual and team win.
Their next action comes in a quad at home, taking on Cardinal, Highland and Lone Tree.
