The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams faced River Valley Conference rival West Liberty at Tim Grady Gymnasium Friday.

The Golden Hawk girls fell in an overtime contest to the Comets 38-35. Mid-Prairie’s defense was terrific all night, holding the Comets to just 11 points in the first half as they opened up a 19-11 lead at the break. The Golden Hawks were still in control, up 11 going to the fourth quarter but West Liberty went on a 17-6 run that spanned the entire period to force the extra frame. Defenses dominated overtime with West Liberty scoring five to Mid-Prairie two to get the win. Shae Becker led the Golden Hawks with 11 points. With the loss, Mid-Prairie is now 9-5 on the season.

The Golden Hawk boys completed a season sweep of West Liberty with a convincing78-61 win. It was all Golden Hawks from the beginning as they won every quarter on the night, finding themselves up nine after the first and with a 39-26 lead going to the half. Mid-Prairie cruised in the second half, not allowing the Comets to make a run en route to the victory. Tom Butters scored 30 points with 16 rebounds while Cale Robertson had 18. Mid-Prairie is now 7-6 on the year as they get ready for Tipton on Tuesday.
