The Columbus girls basketball team stepped outside of Southeast Iowa Superconference play in the final week before Christmas break, dropping their matchup with No. 15 Wilton 73-19.
The Beavers used a huge first quarter to take control of the game from the onset, outscoring Columbus 36-7 in the first frame. Columbus would muster just one point in the second quarter, leaving the score 47-8 at the break. Wilton kept the pressure on in the third quarter, going on an 18-2 run that lasted the entire frame to push the lead to 65-10. Olivia Carrier led Columbus with six points. With the loss, the Wildcats stand at 0-9 on the year.
