The Columbus Wildcat boys basketball team took a break from Southeast Iowa Superconference play to host the Wilton Beavers last week.
Wilton beat the Wildcats 66-44. A strong start gave the Beavers a big lead early. Wilton opened the game on a 19-7 run that lasted the entire first quarter and followed that up by outscoring Columbus 22-12 in the second quarter to take a 41-19 lead into the half. The teams played even in the second stanza. Eric Valdez led Columbus with 18 points. With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 1-7 on the year.
