In a clash of two of the top boys teams in the Southeast Iowa Superconference it was IMS who came away with the 51-48 road win over Highland.
The Huskies started the game hot, putting together a 9-0 run in the first quarter around a five minute IMS drought from the floor. The Huskies led 15-7 after one. IMS responded in the second quarter with an 8-0 run of their own to pull within 29-28 at the half. In the second half, neither team could find separation with the largest margin belonging to IMS at 42-37 midway through the fourth quarter. In the final two minutes, IMS hit four clutch free throws, two a piece from Eli Ours and Caleb Gingerich. Highland had one final chance to tie down three with 12 seconds left but a Mason McFarland heave from near mid-court spun off the rim.
IMS was led by Eli Ours with 23 points. Highland put a trio in double figures with Cole Adamson finishing with 12 and Mason McFarland and Zack Lasek each with 10. With the win, IMS goes into break at 6-2, Highland stands at 6-3.
