The Washington and Sigourney girls’ basketball teams squared off in Sigourney for a KCII-area battle last night, with the Savages ultimately taking the win 31-29.
The game was as tight as they come, with neither team leading by more than three points and countless lead changes across the game. The Demons would retake the lead with about a minute left in regulation with a Haylee Wilson lay-in, but Sigourney’s Ryleigh Leonard pulled up from downtown and drained what ultimately was the game-winner with about 10 seconds left in the contest.
No player on either side reached double-figures in the scoring column. Washington’s Addison Six and Sigourney’s Megan Stuhr led all scorers with nine points each, followed by Kaylee Weber with eight and Joselyn Abell with seven off the bench.
The loss moves the Demons to 3-3 on the season, while Sigourney improves to stay unbeaten at 4-0. The next action for the Demon girls will be on Friday night when they head to Keokuk for a Southeast Conference doubleheader. That one will be heard on KCII starting around 5:45 with the Washington HyVee Pregame Show. Tip-off is set for 6:15, and the boys’ game will follow.
