In foggy conditions a car pulled in front of a semi near Brighton and one person was injured. According to the Washington County Communications Office, at 7:32 a.m. Friday a car came off of a side road and into the path of a semi on Highway 78 near Fir Avenue. The two drivers were Jesse Lasek of Ainsworth and Eric Stakland of Brighton. One driver was injured and complaining of chest pain and bruising. One person was taken by ambulance to the Jefferson County Hospital. Brighton QRS, Brighton Fire Department, Washington County Rescue, Washington County Ambulance, Washington County Sheriff’s personnel, and Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene. The Iowa Department of Transportation was notified that a state sign had been damaged. The vehicle was towed once the fog had lifted.
Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen encourages drivers to always turn on headlights when driving in fog, because tail lights don’t turn on with daytime running lights.
