A student community service trip to Beaufort, North Carolina has begun fundraising efforts.
At the November 26th Mid-Prairie School Board meeting, the request from Alternative Learning Center Principal Amy Shalla, to begin fundraising was approved. The trip will send 16 Mid-Prairie students to North Carolina to assist with damage caused by Hurricane Florence earlier this year. The means of fundraising will include reaching out to local businesses and community groups, and a GoFundMe campaign. The estimated overall cost of the trip is $4,000-$7,500, with any money left over to be donated to hurricane victims. The project has already received a $750 grant by the Fund for Academic Excellence to pay for the cost of safety equipment.
