The Washington wrestling team welcomed Mediapolis and Davenport Assumption to town for a couple of duels last night, beating Mepo 60-21 and losing to Assumption 48-27.

The Assumption duel saw the Demons stick fairly evenly with Assumption, with the teams splitting right down the middle at 6-6 (if you remove the forfeits).  Winners in that one were Matt Collett in the 113 weight class by a 10-8 decision, tenth-ranked Walker Ikerd in the 120 class by an 8-3 decision, Garrett Ikerd in 138 by a 6-0 decision, Dillan Sanders in the 145 weight class by fall, David Hora in 152 by fall, and fourth-ranked Tristin Westphal-Edwards in the 182 weight class via fall.

The Mepo duel was a different story.  Washington would lose their matches in the first two weight classes, but then come back to win all but one of their remaining one-on-one matches.  Several forfeits played a part in the lopsidedness of the overall score, as 42 of Washington’s 60 points came via the forfeit.

They’ll take to the mats again tonight when they travel to Cascade for a tournament, which is set to start at 4:30.
