A voter registration proclamation was approved by the Washington County Board of Supervisors.
Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer explained at Tuesday’s meeting that the proclamation was from the Iowa Secretary of State’s office and is being requested of all 99 counties. Supervisor chairman Abe Miller encourages people to go to the polls, “You’ve got a voice, you might as well use it and register to vote.” Tuesday was National Voter Registration Day.
To register to vote ahead of the election go to your county auditor’s office and complete a voter registration form. Iowa residents can also register to vote at the polls, to do so you must show proof of ID and proof of residence. Examples include an Iowa driver’s license, U.S. passport, and a bank statement. Early voting can be done by mail or in person beginning October 8th. The general election will be Tuesday, November 6th. Voters will be asked to show an ID this November or sign an Oath of Identification.
