The Winfield-Mt. Union football team fell to the Montezuma Braves Friday night by a 34-20 score.
It was the Wolves who got on the board first when Daunte Oepping went up top to Jacob Ford for a 38 yard touchdown strike. The Braves posted back to back touchdowns to capture the lead at 14-6 after one quarter. The Wolves climbed back within 14-12 on another long scoring pass, this time from Oepping to Christian Gerot for 37 yards, and that’s where the game stood at half. Out of the locker room the Oepping to Gerot connection gave the Wolves the lead again, with a seven yard scoring pass to go up 20-14. Montezuma controlled things late scoring 20 unanswered to secure the win. The Wolves outgained the Braves 263-238 on the night including 191 to 49 through the air but could not overcome four turnovers. With the loss, WMU falls to 1-2 on the year as they travel to Iowa Valley Friday.
