As Banned Books Week takes place September 23-29, the Washington Public Library is hosting a couple events leading up to the week for students in sixth-12th grade.
Library Director Bryna Walker shares what Teen Services Librarian Kayla Nelson has planned, “Kayla has come up with some really cool ideas for September. It’s Banned Books Week during the month of September so she has come up with a couple different ideas: Save That Book, which means to design a way to save and transport your favorite banned books, that’s for sixth grade and up. Crafternoon she’s doing on September 19th and we’re going to celebrate banned books by decorating a tote bag and that’s also for sixth grade and up.”
Save That Book will take place at 4 p.m. September 12th, and Crafternoon will take place at 4 p.m. September 19th at the library. Adolescents are also welcome to join the Literary Alliance Book Club meeting at 4 p.m. September 26th. The library is also accepting non-perishable food items for overdue library materials, which will be donated to the Washington HACAP food pantry. For more information on these events or to join the Teen Advisory Board call the Washington Public Library at 319-653-2726.
