The Mid-Prairie School Board held a public hearing for flexibility account spending at their recent meeting.
Business Manager Jeff Swartzentruber explained the law passed by the Iowa Legislature which created a provision to transfer certain unspent categorical funds to flexibility accounts for spending in subsequent fiscal years. The spending parameters are proposed to be virtually the same as the instructional support levy, which the board approved continuing for another five years at their previous meeting. Swartzentruber shares the estimated unspent district funds, “We’re still working on what those actual dollar amounts are going to be so I’ve been saying it’s going to be somewhere in the neighborhood for the home school assistance program of $30,000-$40,000 that we would transfer and for the teacher professional development it’s somewhere between $500-$2,000 that we would be looking at doing. If you ask why we don’t know a better number than that I’ll just say that until we have the certified annual report with the data on the 15th of September the numbers will move slightly and so I don’t want to come with this specific number.”
No comments were made during the public hearing, and a resolution will be brought to the board after September 15th.
