Late summer is referred to as the dog days of the calendar and PAWS and More Animal Shelter in Washington, is making sure canines in the area are not forgotten with their upcoming events.

The shelter will be hosting a pair of events, both the Dog Jog and the Doggie Paddle on Saturday, August 25th. Director of PAWS and More Animal Shelter Amber Talbot gives KCII news a description of the events. “The Dog Jog was a great idea that the YMCA wanted to launch this year, and have it in conjunction with the Dog Paddle. It’s a two mile walk/jog, so you can get your exercise and then go for a dip after the jog. We wanted to have the swim coincide with that so people could refresh and relax. The dog swim is from 9a.m. until noon and that is a $5 entry fee. That also serves as a fundraiser for the shelter. Last year we did our first tennis ball bomb. There were probably 60 or 70 tennis balls that went into the water at the same time and all of the dogs dove in after them.” It’s a fun event. If you haven’t had your dog attend before and they love water it’s a really great way to get them out.”

Dog Jog entry fee is $20, it starts at the Rocketslide in Sunset Park. All who participate will receive a dog scarf and Frisbee. The Doggie Paddle is at the Steele Family Aquatic Center with a $5 entry fee. All proceeds benefit PAWS and More Animal Shelter. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
