A Washington County 4-H member will be showing his steer in this year’s Governor’s Charity Steer Show at the Iowa State Fair, and the Washington County 4-H family is showing their support with a fundraiser.

Grant Garman of the 76 Progressives 4-H Club will be selling his steer Quarter Pounder at the show which has generated over $3.2 million for the Ronald McDonald Houses of Iowa since the show’s inception in 1983. The facilities house the family members of seriously ill children being treated in area hospitals. Garman’s family has faced adversity this year as his father Jeff has been battling cancer.

Washington County 4-H is asking area residents to show their support to the Garmans and the Ronald McDonald House by making a monetary contribution to the sale of Quarter Pounder. Dustin Ford is coordinating the efforts of the donations, “I think it’s a great opportunity for Washington County to show our united support for the Garman family and bring forward a good contribution to the sale, because again the funds from that go to an extremely good and valuable cause at the Ronald McDonald House. And I think it’s a great opportunity to show the state of Iowa, through the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association’s special event here with the Governor’s Charity Steer Show, our dedication to the cause and the strength of our agricultural community.”

The donations will be given along with the sale of Quarter Pounder at the Governor’s Charity Steer Show taking place at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 11th in the Pioneer Livestock Pavilion at the Iowa State Fair. To donate contact Ford at 317-225-9976 or email him at dford@elanco.com.
