A date has been set for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Kalona Community Center.
City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says the Kalona City Council has scheduled an open house on Saturday August 25th from 1-4 p.m., “We would do a ribbon cutting at 1:30 that day and we’ll have that entire building at that point open to the public for them to come in and tour. We’ll have people throughout the building that can answer any questions whether it’s city staff, YMCA staff, we’ll have a lot of different groups in the building that can talk about the amenities and public use and so forth and just let them take a look through the building.”
The open house will take the place of this year’s Kalona City Celebration, and the YMCA plans to open the building for residents the following Monday August 27th. Schlabaugh anticipates construction will be completed and the city will take ownership of the building by August 18th. Work began on the $5.3 million facility in July 2017 which will include three basketball courts, an elevated walking track, fitness and dance rooms, and office space for Washington County Sheriff’s deputies.
