The Washington Demon softball team fell in the second round of regional play Saturday night, losing to tenth-ranked Newton by a 3-1 score.
Kellie Dallmeyer led off the game with a double and came around to score, but that was all the offense they could muster against a fantastic performance by Newton pitcher Peyton Maher. The Demons only notched two hits total as a team in the loss.
Molly Sparks took the loss for the Demons in the circle on a good pitching performance of her own, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits while walking three (all intentional) and striking out one.
This ends the Demons season at a 17-22 record; they were 6-17 at one point, but came back to win 11 of their last 16 games of the season. They graduate two seniors, Morgan Brinning and Megan Mitchell, and retain their remaining 15.
