The Washington Demon baseball team welcomed Mount Pleasant into town for what ended up being a single game on Saturday night, losing by a score of 4-1.

The game was initially scheduled as a double-header.  Head coach Nathan Miller’s intent was to keep it as a double-header only with a game one win, knowing that a loss would take them out of contention for a Southeast Conference title.  With the players’ health in mind after a jam-packed week of baseball, they would only play the second if it was necessary.  That didn’t end up being the case.

Mount Pleasant grabbed the lead early with a run in the first inning, then came back with two more in the second and one in the fifth to go up 4-0.  The Demons would put a run on the board in their half of the fifth on an RBI by Erik Murphy, but that was all the scoring they did.

Jacob Hall was the pitcher of record in the game, getting the start and going six innings of work while striking out four.  Kole Hinrichsen also came in for an inning of relief, recording three strikeouts.

The loss moves Washington to 20-10 on the season.  They welcome Center Point-Urbana to town tonight for a JV-Varsity double-header.  We’ll have the varsity game live on KCII, with the Washington HyVee Pregame show at approximately 6:30 with first pitch a half-hour later.
