Several planned road construction projects in southeast Iowa are confirmed to continue as the Iowa Transportation Commission approved the fiscal year 2019-2023 Iowa Transportation Improvement Program.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation this program continues to reflect additional projects that are possible because of the fuel tax increase implemented in 2015. Approximately 55% of the $3.4 billion program is expected to be invested in rural areas. The multiyear corridor improvement projects include Highway 92 east of Highway 218 to Highway 70 in Columbus Junction, Highway 1 in Fairfield, and Highway 92 at the Highway 21 and County Road V33 intersections in Keokuk County. More than $1.8 billion is programmed from fiscal year 2019-2023 for modernization of the state’s existing highway system and for enhanced highway safety features.
