The weather wasn’t quite as bad in Moravia yesterday; it was at least good enough for a softball game.
The seventh-ranked Sigourney Savage softball team still played their game yesterday, beating non-conference opponent Moravia 12-2 in five innings.
Sigourney struck quickly with two runs in the top of the first inning. They allowed a run in the second, but a run scored in the third, six runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth gave the Savages a 12-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth. They gave up one to bring the deficit to ten runs at 12-2, but out number three pu tthe mercy rule in effect, sealing the deal
Megan Stuhr was outstanding at the plate, going 3-4 with 5 RBI and two runs scored. Jordan VanEe got the win in the circle, going all five innings and giving up two runs (zero earned) on six hits while walking none and punching out two.
Sigourney’s next contest is tonight against Lynville-Sully, and then they head to Oskaloosa for a tournament on Saturday.
