An update on volunteer policies was given at the Mid-Prairie School Board meeting.

Co-chairs of the 30-member committee Jack Seward and Ryan Schlabaugh explained that the review committee has been formed to give recommendations on three areas: policies and procedures related to volunteers, use of facilities by non-school sponsored organizations, and distribution of materials by non-school sponsored organizations. The committee has met twice so far, in which they’ve broken into small groups to address these procedures. Schlabaugh mentioned this process is not an easy one, and not everyone has the same opinions, but that is conducive to this task. Committee and school board member Jodi Meader commented, “I don’t know what I expected going into that first meeting but I really liked the process, I like what we’re doing. We’ve broken apart some of those big questions, those big things that they want answered and discussing those in our groups, and I think that’s going to really help the community to really feel safe with their children in our schools again.”

The committee will meet two or three more times this summer and will present their written recommendation of policies at the board’s August 13th meeting. Board President Jeremy Pickard says he would like the first reading of that policy to be passed at that date, before Mid-Prairie returns to school on August 23rd.
