The City of Washington is looking to change water rates and sewer use charges.

At the recent council meeting acting mayor pro tem Brendan DeLong said, “It’s something we don’t like to do, but I think it’s necessary to continue our improvements within the city.” For residential customers, water services will have a base rate of $17.85 and a usage rate of $3.97 per 100 cubic feet. The base rate for water is remaining the same and the increase on usage is 13-cents per 100 cubic feet. For sewer services the increase is from $3.83 per 100 cubic feet to $3.97. The second reading passed unanimously. A third and final reading of the changes will be held at the next meeting.
