The Mid-Prairie baseball and softball teams step back on the diamond Thursday when they welcome the Cascade Cougars for River Valley Conference play.
The Golden Hawk baseball team is 5-5 on the year, looking to snap a five game skid. They fell to Northeast Goose Lake Tuesday night 4-1 in eight innings in Wellman. On the season the Hawks are hitting .227 led by Rex Peck and his .320 average. On the mound the Hawks have a collective 2.36 ERA, led by Brad Tornow with a 3-2 record and 0.67 ERA in 21 innings.
Cascade enters tonight’s game with an 11-0 overall record. They are ranked No. 2 in the state in class 2A according to the latest poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. In their last game they beat West Liberty 16-3. On the season the Cougars are hitting .362 as a team, led by Reid Rausch and his .481 average. On the mound the Cougars have a 0.90 ERA as a team, led by Harris Hoffman with his 3-0 record and zero ERA in 17 innings of work. These two teams met last year with Cascade taking a 13-3 win.
The Golden Hawks are also hosting the Cougars on the softball diamond Thursday. Mid-Prairie enters play with a 2-9 overall record. The Golden Hawks lost a shoot out in extra innings to Northeast Goose Lake Tuesday 16-12. On the year, Mid-Prairie is hitting .324, led by Rylee Vercande and her .485 average. In the circle the Hawks have a team ERA of 4.60, led by Cassidy Rourke with a 2-7 record and 3.83 ERA in 49 innings of work.
Cascade is 4-5 on the year. The Cougars were beaten 11-2 by West Liberty last time out. On the season Cascade is hitting .261, led by Tonya Menke with a .414 average. In the circle the Cougars have a collective ERA of 3.39, led by Hailey Hannan with a 3-4 record and 45 innings thrown with a 3.37 ERA. These two teams met last year with Cascade taking an 8-1 win.
