The Mid-Prairie baseball and softball teams travel to Monticello Thursday for a River Valley Conference matchup with the Panthers.
The Golden Hawk baseball team puts their perfect 5-0 record on the line in the early season contest. Last time out the Hawks beat up on North Cedar winning 11-1 in just five innings. On the year, Mid-Prairie is led at the plate by Keaton Duwa and his .500 average. He has four RBI, one home run and four walks to his credit this year. On the mound, Golden Hawk ace Brad Tornow is 3-0 and has yet to allow a run. He has recorded 30 strikeouts in just 11 innings of work. Monticello is 2-2 on the year, last time out they fell to Wilton 7-3. On the season the Panthers are led by Gavin Cooper and his .500 average. Ryan Manternach leads Monticello on the hill with a 1-0 record and 1.75 ERA across four innings of work. These two teams met a season ago with the Hawks claiming an 8-3 win.
On the softball diamond Mid-Prairie is 1-3 on the year, fresh off of their first victory of the season 9-5 over North Cedar Tuesday. On the season, Mid-Prairie is led at the plate by Jaselyn Robertson and her .462 average. In the circle, Cassidy Rourke has worked 24 innings with a 1-2 record and 3.74 ERA. Monticello is 1-3 on the season, their last game a 9-6 loss to Wilton on Tuesday. For the year the Panthers are led by Lauren Ries with a .500 average. In the circle it’s Caitlin Cruise with an 0-1 record in six innings of work and a 7.00 ERA. These two teams met last season with Monticello winning a shoot out 12-10. Action in both contests begins Thursday at 7:30 at Monticello High School.
