The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team opens up the home portion of their 2018 schedule Friday when they welcome the Mount Vernon Mustangs to Kalona.
The Golden Hawks opened the season Thursday at West Liberty, suffering a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Comets 8-4 and 11-1. Mid-Prairie was 12-24 a year ago. The Hawks hit .290 as a team and offensively were led by Kitty Conway and her .418 average. In the circle, Cassidy Rourke had an 11-17 overall record, throwing 187 innings with a 4.74 ERA. The Hawks had a 4.85 collective team ERA a season ago.
So far this season, Mount Vernon is 0-3 with a 4-2 loss to West Branch and a sweep at the hands of the Independence Mustangs on Wednesday 5-4 and 8-4. Mount Vernon was 29-17 last year, hitting .333 as a team. Mount Vernon was led at the plate by Sammy Moss with a .479 average. The Mustang pitching staff had an overall ERA of 3.81 with Amanda Roe with 139 innings of work and a 3.32 ERA. These two teams met a season ago with the Mustangs scoring a 10-0 win.
