The No. 2 ranked Iowa Mennonite boys soccer team avenged their only loss of the regular season with a 2-1 win over No. 7 Burlington Notre Dame in the second round of the class 1A playoffs.
These two teams split their two games in the regular season with IMS scoring a 2-1 victory in Burlington early in the year and the Nike’s returning the favor to spoil the perfect IMS season in the Superconference tournament championship game at Mediapolis 3-1. On Wednesday it was IMS that got on the board first when Jacob Boller beat the Nike keeper on an assist from Louis Etienne in the 11th minute. That’s where the score stood at the half. In the second half Notre Dame found the equalizer in the 47th minute. Iowa Mennonite came up with the game winner in the 67th minute when Cole Ours found Tyler Swantz at the back post. Blake Bontrager made three saves in goal to secure the win. With the victory IMS is now 17-1 on the year and advances to Saturday’s substate final at No. 3 Solon.
