Sometimes, you get what you need.

The Washington offense got a goal, the Demon defense made it stand up. That formula added up to a playoff win for the Washington boys soccer team at Clear Creek Amana 1-0 over the Keokuk Chiefs Monday. Defenses dominated the majority of the match with the game locked in a scoreless tie at intermission. The second half was more of the same until Zac Stout came through for Washington. The freshman scored the biggest goal of his young career on a corner kick rebound.

That was enough for the Demon defense, led by Ben Baughman in goal with a clean sheet. With the win, Washington is now 9-6 on the year. The Demons will travel to Mount Pleasant for the substate semifinals Wednesday to take on the rival Panthers, who had a bye in the first round.
