***These Games Have Been Postponed***

The Washington Demon baseball and softball teams are on the diamond for the first time on the new season tonight when they travel to Anamosa.

The Washington baseball team is coming off of an 18-16 season a year ago. The Demons were 7-9 in the Southeast Conference last season. Offensively, the Demons hit .295 as a team, led by senior Brandon Loy with his .360 average. Washington lost their top three hitters by average to graduation. Their top returner is Cade Hennigan with a .333 average. The Demon pitching staff had a 3.85 ERA last year led by senior Collin Zear with his 6-2 record and 2.30 ERA. Top returner in the Demon rotation is Jacob Hall with a 2.31 ERA across 42 innings of work.

Anamosa was 1-31 a season ago, their lone win came over Maquoketa by a 4-1 score. The Blue Raiders hit just .207 last year and had a team ERA of 6.86.

The Washington softball team will also be in Anamosa tonight. The Demons were 21-18 last season, finishing with a 6-10 mark in the Southeast Conference. Washington hit .299 as a team and was led at the plate by senior Jessie Buchholz with her .426 average. Top returner for Washington is Morgan Brinning with her .388 average. In the circle the Demons had a 3.54 ERA a season ago and return everyone who threw a pitch last season, led by Molly Sparks with her 15-8 record and 3.15 ERA across 153 innings of work.

Anamosa was 19-15 last year. The Blue Raiders hit .335 as a team and had a collective ERA of 4.40. These two teams played a doubleheader last year with Washington winning game one 12-0 and falling in game two 5-4.
